Tennis Trading: Ferrer Gets The Money Buyers Off The Hook
Tipsarevic V Ferrer

Probably the most dramatic point of this match was in the final set when Tipsarevic requested a medical time out. This sent the markets into panic and Ferrer actually traded as low as 1.11 to win the match. This was an example of greed at its best as many traders probably thought they were buying free money as a distressed Tipsarevic did not look like he could continue for a brief moment.
A clear over reaction since no one really knew what Tipsarevic’s injury was at this point and it was actually just cramp. It seemed like everyone forgot the score was still level at this point and once Tipsarevic recovered, he got up and held his serve and Ferrer jumped from 1.11 out to 1.90.
By the way, Tipsarevic had already traded as low as 1.08 in the final set when he scored the first break of the set and eventually led 4-1. The score of 4-1 is quite deceiving as it was still only one break of serve difference and it was not that difficult for Ferrer to get back into the match and he eventually did.
In the end it was poetic justice for the neutrals that the match was decided on a tie break and after an epic £39.6 million was turned over on the Betfair markets it was Ferrer who triumphed. I guess this was just as well for those who backed him @ 1.11 in the final set thinking it was over. For the record Ferrer was also matched as high as 9 in-play.
Incredible stuff!
